Privacy Policy
This policy covers the LeanFPS Windows app and this website, leanfps.com. It describes what they actually do today.
The LeanFPS app
- Stays on your PC. The app does not send telemetry, crash reports, your game list or your FPS numbers anywhere. Its only network requests are for LeanFPS Pro licenses, described below.
- Pro license requests: when you activate a key, LeanFPS sends our license server (api.hyperchaos.dev, run by us in the Netherlands) the key, your purchase email, the app version, your PC's name, its Windows version and its Windows machine ID. The server keeps only a hash of the machine ID. About every 7 days, when you are online, the app renews its license file by sending that file and the machine ID; removing Pro from a PC sends the same. The signed license file is stored as
license.jsonnext to the settings. Without Pro the app makes no requests at all. - What it stores locally: your settings, the undo journal (the previous value of every setting it changed) and your session history (game executable name, date, duration, average FPS and lows). These are JSON files in
C:\ProgramData\LeanFPS. Delete the folder to remove them. - What it reads: the foreground window and its process, launcher library files from Steam, Epic and other launchers to recognize installed games, game icons, frame timing events from Windows for the running game, and the Windows settings it is allowed to change.
- Links it opens: the Unlock Pro button opens this website in your browser. Nothing is attached to the link.
This website
- The website sets no cookies and has no accounts.
- Buying Pro: the email you type on the Pro page goes to our license server, which creates the order. Payment happens on Stripe's checkout page; your card details go to Stripe, never to us. We receive the payment status and amount. The key is shown on the page and emailed to you from no-reply@leanfps.com. While you wait, the page keeps the order number in your browser's session storage so it can resume after a reload.
- License page: asking for your key or a manage link sends your email to the license server, which emails you if a license exists. Manage links carry a token after # that stays in your browser and is removed from the address bar as soon as the page reads it.
- The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard request data such as IP address and browser type to deliver pages and protect against abuse.
- If we turn on visitor statistics, we will use a self-hosted, cookie-free Umami instance that records only the page path, without the part after #, and respects Do Not Track. This page will say so when it is on.
- Your theme choice and a dismissed announcement are remembered in your browser’s local storage. They never leave your device.
If you email contact@leanfps.com, we keep the conversation to answer you and handle refunds, and delete it on request. We only send you license emails you asked for (your key, a manage link, a change to your license); we do not add you to a mailing list.
License records we keep
For each Pro license we keep your purchase email, the order and payment status, the key (encrypted), and for each activated PC its name, Windows version, app version, the hash of its machine ID and when it was last seen. We keep these while the license exists so the key keeps working and refunds can be handled, plus what tax and accounting law requires for the order. Ask us to delete a license and its PCs at any time; the key then stops working.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for a copy, or ask us to delete it by emailing contact@leanfps.com. LeanFPS is not directed at children under 13.
